A very useful way to build a secure cabin in the woods is to consider employing a structure that is elevated above the woodland floor in the trees i.e. a treehouse.

No foundations are required and if the treehouse deck is secured to larch trees (as per the photo above & below) then wood rot should not be a problem. The ladder can be easily removed to ensure excellent security.

Depending on the spacing of the trees it might prove necessary to build the cabin around a tree and the roof can be sealed using a flexible membrance (rubber inner tube). Excellent blending of the tree house with the woodland is obtained naturally courtesy of the surrounding underwood

This tree house makes good use of 3 large Japanese larch trees that have provided a solid base upon and aroumd which a platform and shed have been mounted reached by a stairway wrapping around one of the trees.

Will the fixings damage the trees or restrict growth ?

Do the occupants get sea sick due to any sway of the trees ?
