Post Embedding images in the O.W.G. forum
on: October 18, 2012, 20:33

It seems there's a little confusion as to how to include an image in a post, so I will outline how it's done here.

The first thing to note is that you can not upload images to the forum it self. If we facilitated this, we could end up with a huge hosting bill for all the disk space it would take up!

So the image you wish to include, or to use the lingo, 'embed' in your post must first be uploaded to an image hosting website like Flickr or Picasa. There are many such sites, just do a web search with your favourite search engine for 'free image hosting' (https://duckduckgo.com/?q=free+image+hosting). Make sure the host allows 'hot linking' or it might not work!

Once you have done that, make a note of the URL (address/location) of the image, example: http://www.freeimagehosting.com/yournew/uploaded/image.jpg and enter that address in the post on our forums where you wish the image to appear.

Next you must wrap that address in the opening and closing tags for embedding an image;

Rather than type out the tags manually, you can highlight the URL of the image and click on the 'insert image' button in the panel above the post editor, just look for the icon that has an image of the mountains. You can also hover your mouse over the buttons for more information.

Please try to make sure the images are not too big for the page, or (as some have) they will spill out over the page. No more than 550 pixels wide.

I hope this is of some help 🙂
