A 10ft dry European Larch log top was selected -

- to hew and halve to form a pair of wall braces to secure and stabilise the centre cruck.

Andrew Jarvis kitted up in the Soverign Housing funded personal protective clothing & equipment to operate the Stihl 261 chainsaw fitted with an 18" Grandberg ripping chain & bar.

A centre line was marked along the top of the log using a laser. This is much easier than trying to snap a chalk line on an irregular surface. The log was then ripped in half.

The halved log planks will make a mirror image pair of matched wall braces (10ft x 8" x 3.5" - 4") that will be cut down to size to avoid any large knot pockets and / other defects.
