I recently chanced upon The Coppice Plot website that features advice on making and selling charcoal in West Wales from woodlands owned by various parties who have agreed to the active management of their woodlands by coppice workers.

They publish a newsletter The Coppice Plot which can be downloaded to obtain an explanation how a charcoal retort is loaded, burnt and unloaded.
