Oxfordshire Woodland Group

The 2013 Woodland Heritage visit to Shellswell Estate in Oxfordshire provided the opportunity for members and guests to see a mature (1900) plantation of oak & ash which is now ready for group selection and felling.

The recent discovery of chalara fraxinea disease which will potentially affect / kill nearly all ash trees in England might hasten the felling of mature ash to help avoid degrade of the standing timber. This might also provide a stimulus to fell adjacent oak trees to create a sufficient group fell area suitable for replanting.
