It was planned to raise this timber-frame on 03rd & 04th August 2024 and generally fit volunteers were welcomed to assist in this process.

Update:

The raising was delayed by a week to 10 / 11 Aug due to heavy rain forecast for 02 / 03 / 04 August 2023.

Cora Firth supervised the raising employing a gin pole, come-a-longs and straps to lift the heavy wall plates into position.

Side wall parts were raised by hand. Wall plates were lifted over post tenons and wall braces inserted to jowl posts. Wall Plates were lowered onto tenons. Alignment & fit was checked and then pegs were driven.

Cross frame posts & braces were lifted into position and then the tie beam was lowered on to top of the wall plates, posts & braces. Alignment & fit was checked and then pegs were driven.

By close of day on 11th Aug 2023 the timber-frame was raised up and ready to receive the loft floor. gable frames, rafters & wind bracing.

The frame walls were closed in using 8" - 10" wide Douglas Fir feather edged cladding.
