Oxfordshire Woodland Group

Whilst chopping up a larch log that has been lying on the ground since 2012 I came across a large beetle that would appear to be a small female stag beetle.

This beetle played "dead" and I was not sure whether or not I had killed it during my log chopping efforts.

Given the importance of conserving this native beetle I have safely returned her to the environment from which she came.
