In a recent post on the SWOG web forum "Joe Public" made a post about his plans to restore his PAWS woodland to a native deciduous tree mix only to be stopped in his tracks by an encounter with one of his woodland residents.

Zooming in reveals a curious sight sitting on top of a branch in a larch tree.

Maybe there is more to woodland management than simply making a choice about what trees should be growing in the woodland. Ethnic cleansing of conifers might not be such a good idea especially if these provide a preferred habitat for owls and other raptors that help to maintain the population balance of mice, voles, rabbits, etc.
