In the past Oxfordshire employed it's local timber resource to good effect in building construction. Over the centuries some timbers might have needed to be repaired and / or replaced to keep everything structurally sound. The most important thing is to maintain a good roof covering and foundation to stop the elements doing their worst. These buildings were designed and built to protect crops and nowadays it's people.

This is exemplified in a 5 bay twin aisled box framed threshing barn in South Oxfordshire that was visited by The Oxfordshire Woodland Group.

This barn is in very good condition having been repaired some time ago for conversion to provide a social gathering facility.

It has a butt purlin / queen strut roof and is sans windbraces & ridge

The frame employs the English tying joint to good effect with hand hewn main timbers.

The raking struts have been replaced.
