Nicola Craven at the Woodland Trust has advised the Oxfordshire Woodland Group that they have produced an ancient woodland restoration and interpretation tool kit to help woodland owners interpret and inform visitors to ancient woodland sites.

The ancient woodland restoration toolkit provides guidance on planning, developing and delivering a range of interpretive media and events suitable for ancient woodland, all made possible by funding received from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The toolkit provides essential information needed to engage with persons visiting ancient woodland sites and though it has been produced mainly for community woodland owners, it could be used by anyone who owns or manages ancient woodland especially those about to undergo restoration.

The kit includes: -

• An explanation of what interpretation is and why it’s important
• A step by step approach to planning successful interpretation
• Case studies and examples to inspire visitors
• Tips on delivering interpretation
• How to check if it’s working
• Sources of funding
• Finding suppliers and other useful information

Nicola would welcome receiving feeback on the toolkit.
