The rear long wall timber frame differs from the front in that it is fitted with interrupted (discontinuous between main posts) sills and foot braces.

Foot braces and wall studs are scribed and cut in a similar fashion to that explained for cruck 2.

Mortices are made either using a hand cranked augur -

- or a Millers falls boring machine.

The use of hand driven boring tools makes for a pleasant and quiet environment that does not require the use of ear defenders and has the added benefit that carpenters can hold a pleasant conversation whilst working or listen to the birds singing.

The timber-frame will be held together by driving tapered oak pegs through the mortice & tenon joints. These pegs are made by hand on a horse using a draw knife.

A box full of finished taper draw pegs together with square pegs for skew fixing of cruck spurs.
