An area of ground has been cleared of bracken & bramble in order to plant oak saplings grown from acorns gathered in the woodland.

A test hole was augured / dug to determine the soil type and moisture content - dry / sandy / small & large pebbles.

A water percolation test was undertaken to determine the porosity of the soil.

It took 15 minutes to drain 8" of water depth with rapid air bubbles initially observed rising as the soil was re hydrated. The effects of the long hot summer on the soil are obvious.

Staked tree shelters (kindly provided by Sandra Parkinson) were employed to help protect the trees now growing on the cleared woodland edge plot.

This small native tree planting parcel is being used to help fill a gap that was left by the great storm of 1987.

It's never too late to plant a tree !

Now all we have to do now is add water and sunshine and then wait for a hundred years to pass !
