When large trees get blown over they create a mound and depression that in due course will melt down but not disappear from the landscape.

The great storm of 1987 brought down these 2 Chilterns beech trees (pd 1860) that 37 years later now demonstrate the validity of Wessels method of demonstrating features that should be found in ancient woodland.
