Oxfordshire Woodland Group

South Oxfordshire Archaeology Group assisted by The Oxfordshire Woodland Group recently used resistivity geophys to confirm the exact location of a former cottage that stood at the entrance to a woodland site, known to have been demolished around 1907.

A 2 metre grid was set out using blue ropes that enabled taking readings every 1 metre in both (axial & cross) directions.

The 1853 tithe map shows the location of the cottage where The Strong Family (Charles & Sarah) lived with their 5 children (1851 census).

The geophys results confirm that the location shown on the tithe map is correct.
