Seen in North Hinksey, Oxford :-

18" wide elm floor boards that were taper cut and then laid head to toe to ensure minimum wastage and obtain maximum coverage.

The absence of gaps between the floor boards indicates that these were laid dry (i.e. seasoned).

The elm trees required to make these boards were probably about 45-60 years old with a minimum breast height circumference of about 60 inches.
