As part of the Oxfordshire Woodland Group woodland cruck barn building project it has become necessary to try and provide reasonable access to framing floor for disabled persons.

Mobility scooters have amazing off road capabilities in respect of traversing up & downhill and over uneven ground however some of the more obvious routes to the framing floor are off limits to all foot & vehicular traffic for nearly 6 months per year due to considerations to the need to protect blue bells and other wild flowers that cannot survive sustained trampling.

A path is being laid beside the framing floor using paving slabs obtained on Freecycle. Although a few more slabs are still needed to finish the path preliminary testing of access to same by the mobility scooter has proved satisfactory.

Dave Woodward of the Reading Men's Sheds organisation was able to witness and contribute towards the halving of windbraces and levelling of ground sills. Mobility challenged persons (men & women) could work directly producing pegs and shingles or draw knifing and planing sawn surfaces.

We have now obtained a further supply of paving slabs (via freecycle) -

- and will use these to help complete our disabled access pathway to the framing floor.

This pathway will also help reduce mud & dirt being deposited on the framing floor.
