The 2013 Bodgers Ball event held at Wimpole Hall in Cambridgeshire provided a good opportunity for suppliers to display green wood working tools and in particular a display of Gransfors axes caught the attention of Chris of Bog~Art who link posted this snapshot on the Bodger's "Ask n Answer" forum.

Axes have a long history of being used with this being one of the earliest tools made and used by man.

The Bayeux tapestry (1080's) shows a number of axes being used to prepare wooden ships for the invasion of England.

The axes used to make planks for the ships are by no means unrealistic depictions with a similar tee shaped axe being in the West Gate collection of Winchester City Museums. A modern day version of this type of axe can still be purchased from Gransfors.

with this being just one of the many types of traditional hewing axe made by this Swedish axe maker.
