Cogges Manor Farm are about to commence construction of a new Saxon house at Witney, South Oxon.

They are seeking volunteers to get involved in making this building under the direction of McCurdy & Co - builders of Shakespear's Globe theatre.

This is a great opportunity for those persons wanting to break into timber-frame construction to net work with other like minded wood craft persons.

Further information on the Saxon house build project at Cogges Manor Farm has now been issued including :-

Blenheim Palace has very kindly donated 30 trees to make the frame and these trees will be selected by McCurdy & Co along with the Cogges Manor Farm project manager.

McCurdy & Co has submitted plans to Cogges Manor Farm for their review and has confirmed that opportunities will exist for 12 volunteer carpenters to work with McCurdy & Co in Reading, Berkshire, England.

The venue for all volunteer work including timber conversion will now take place at Cogges Manor Farm, Witney, S. Oxon. Deliveries of oak logs from Blenheim Estate will take place shortly.

A marquee will be erected over a fenced off area of the Cogges car park to create a secure on site work area where timbers will be converted by cleaving and hewing to build a much simplified structure. Volunteer days are yet to be confirmed and will hopefully include Saturdays so that as many (working) volunteers can participate.

On site toilets, cafe and volunteer room will be available where tea and coffee can be made, along with an unlimited supply of biscuits!!

By Sep 2022 the work to make and build the Saxon House had not yet commenced apparently due to "Planning Approval" considerations. The 2022 summer season is now albeit lost.
