The cruck barn requires 8 windbraces. These connect the cruck blades to the purlins. Ideally these should be halved timbers that form matched mirror image pairs.

Some larch logs lying in the woodland exhibited both single curve and single plane ogee curves and so these were cut to form 8ft lengths ready -

- for debarking -

- and hewing to form nominal 8" x 8" section timber baulks ready for halving using a Stihl chainsaw fitted with a Granberg ripping chain from Chainsawbars.
