A second long sill is needed and so it was decided to fell, debark and hew a 75 ft high x 50 year old larch tree standing adjacent to log pile no 1. A composite photo of same is shown below.

Andrew Jarvis puts in some knee cuts -

- and then cuts the gob and makes some side plunge plunge cuts.

The final cut is made and the tree falls. TIMBER RRRR!

The tree is down having been felled into quite a tight group of trees with no damage (barking) done to any other tree.

The butt log is then bucked to length (30ft).

The 2nd log will be used to produce wall studs and the top cuts for rollers / bunks / firewood.

Once the tree stump was removed the makeup of the 50 year old stump becomes more obvious.
