When working alone logs can be easily moved by hand by pealing the bark to provide a good slippery surface which can then be dragged over log rollers.

Motive power can either be by hand or better still using a pull lift or "come-a-long" to save back injuries and also to hold the log in position whilst any steering adjustments and roller log movements are made.

A good solid tree is selected to provide an anchor point for the rope and pull lift with a multi strand flexible strap wrapped around the tree to avoid damage to the bark.

The "come-a-long" used was purchased from Home Depot in The States for $40 and is a value for money tool that can be used to pull logs and timber-frames together during preassembly. This pulling devices can be configured to make a quick 1 ton pull with one hook or a 2 ton slower pull using an additional pulley and hook at the other end of the device.

A simple piece of rope can be wrapped around the end of the log to make a friction grip for pulling the log.

Once positioned over the timber bunks it is relatively simple to spin the log by hand so that it is aligned ready for hewing.
