Having visited Finland some years ago to examine their trees and assess same for the suitability to produce timber-framed buildings a visit was paid to view a new log church at Karsamaki north of Oulu, Finland (on 911).

It was noted that a particular wooden joint called "the Devils Fist" was employed along with various other notch lap joints in log walls.

A report was published in Timber Framing No 62 (pp 19-21).
