During a pre visit to Blenheim Palace park by Woodland Heritage a likely example of acute oak dieback was spotted. This is the first tree affected by this condition, as confirmed by Forest Research (S Denman), known to exist inside Blenheim park .

This condition is thought to be promoted by the Agrilus Beetle introducing pathogens into the tree causing bark separation and die back of foliage & branches.

A visit to Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park revealed that many of the oaks growing in the park are now in a state of decline.

There are also symptons of acute oak dieback where the bark has become separated from the tree trunk with many of the upper branches being damaged and consequently removed.

This will ultimately lead to the death of the tree.

It's possible to support research into this devastating condition as championed by Woodland Heritage and undertaken by Dr. Sandra Denman and her team at Forest Research. A report by Dr. Denman and her associates has now been published
